2020 Outfit

Saturday, January 9, 2021

I called this a 2020 outfit because I wore it last year. But I'm definitely going to wear these faux leather shorts in 2021. I didn't feel it was necessary "investing" into expensive shorts, just got these at H&M. They're perfect for walking with my daughter or just run errands.

I'm still loving this coat I've worn plenty on this blog already. I like it more as it sort of looks like a shirt jacket (shacket) that everyone in the fashion world is wearing.

I don't usually write lengthy blog posts, so I'll remain true to myself, and wish you all a happy and healthy 2021!

Beanie with a twist

Saturday, November 21, 2020

Nowadays, if I want to wear a skirt with a pair of lacy tights, I just go for it. It hasn't happened often but it has some mood boosting powers for me.

We had such a beautiful end of October, and early November with lots of sun and warmth. We went out for picnics a lot. That's exactly what we did on this day. Now, with the cooler temps and lockdown, I'm not sure if it's going to be possible to relax outdoors just like we did, and I'm back to wearing sweats for the most part.

I have to write a few words about this beanie with a twist (got it last year from h&m). I love it, it's so feminine, and puts an elegant touch to any outfit. I had to adjust a bit to the look though, it was just a total departure from my usual cuffed beanies.

I like pairing the beanie with the cat-eye sunglasses to achieve this retro inspired look. Anyway, I am not afraid to experiment with different hats, it's fun and an affordable way to add something new to a winter wardrobe.

Some of the best beanies with a twist I found were from Anthropology, look at this one!

Chicago

Monday, November 2, 2020

Exactly 5 years ago on a second day of November, I moved to Chicago. It was a warm, sunny day, and all the way from Michigan to Chicago my future husband and I ate leftover Halloween candy. Our cats were meowing anxiously from the back seat of the car out of their pet carriers. It was exciting, our new life in a big American city was ahead of us.

Our first apartment was in Lincoln Park right across from the LP Zoo. It was unusual and fun to wake up to the lions' roar, and fall asleep to the howling of the wolves.

I'm still enjoying Chicago, the golden coast, the parks and the zoo. Pandemic makes it harder, but we're trying to soak in as much of the city as possible.

For this casual monochromatic outfit, I shopped my closet yet again, and I borrowed this Chicago sweatshirt from my husband's!

I've been a fan of total gray outfits for a while now (wearing same coat here, and a different one here).

Leather leggings have been an essential part of my wardrobe since maybe 2009!

Adding a cape to an outfit

Sunday, October 25, 2020

Capes are not very easy to style but they are fun, and can make an outfit look fresh and interesting (in a good way!) in the sea of parkas and jackets.
I'm wearing a vintage cape that is a bit of crossover with a poncho, it's light and warm. It has survived multiple closet cleanouts despite the fact that I wear it so rarely (I've worn it on the blog a few years back here). I still remember how I won it on an eBay auction, it was fun and I felt proud :-). Speaking of proud, I also scored this chunky vintage Ben Amun bracelet on eBay (love bracelets with charms as well)!

Currently I'm very into baseball caps, it's especially easy with this J. Crew leopard cap (sold out now but here's a good neutral) that has definitely become a classic. It's really handy when it's drizzling outside and I don't feel like taking my umbrella, or when I have a bad hair day (happens too often lately).

My oxfords are older Dr. Martens Joyce but they have a ton of chunkier trendy versions now.
